Sharon loves her flip flops!!!!

Just beginning to share a few of the pairs of flip flops that are in my collection. These belong to a young thing - looks like she is borrowing Mommy's shoes huh? And that she was because they were fun and they were what she thought she wanted to wear with her long dress.

Seems it is most fun to be out and about in the warm weather and then there seem to be a wealth of flip flops and sandals. Gosh they do go together with warm weather!! These were a bit unique both with color and decorations. Why was she wearing these? Obvious and the response was, "Because pink is my favorite color!"

Then one day I was at a conference in Asheville, North Carolina and saw these flip flops. OMG - of course I had to ask for a photo op. Seems this woman's daughter made them and she was so proud to wear them everwhere she went! She had sure to climb up on the chair so I could get the best photo vantage - and made sure to tell me that these were so cool that she could wear them with just about every outfit she owned because of the multitude of colors.

Now, meet Sharon - the Library Director in Pitman, NJ. The other night we were at a Valentine's Social for the Uptown Pitman Chamber of Commerce and we began to talk about all kinds of projects. Since Photoschmoozer has a photo show now at the library, I started talking about the next show - how about SHOES?!? WOW was Sharon excited. Seems she has more than 60 pairs of flip-flops and would love to share them with me. She said that she has them organized all over her house by color - in baskets, closets and wherever. We made a pinky swear for me to come for photo ops and Sharon was so excited that her flip flops collection would be famous!! Gosh who can ever tell what will happen!!?!?!? Stay tuned. Soon - soon - soon - there will be a release of SHOES - a rap song written by my buddy Tony, aka Anthony Michael - and performed by a group named Awareness. In the midst of the song is a list of 21 kinds of shoes and there will be a giant contes to see who can sing the ShoeTube rap! Stay tuned for details - watch for SHOE DAY at the Uptown Pitman Farm Market - see a shoe fashion show - and who knows what else. Photoschmoozer has hundreds of photos of shoes BUT is always looking for more. What are you feel favorites? Why are they special? How do you feel when you wear them - and now important to me - WHERE DO YOU KEEP THEM AND HOW DO YOU ORGANIZE THEM?? Oh my so much 'work' to do and it is all so much FUN!! Super Sunday Adventures!!

Nope, not talking about Super Bowl Sunday but Super Sunday! Our friend Pete Cogan has been telling us he plays on Sunday in northern Wilmington, DE at a place called the Bellefonte Cafe. "Why don't you guys come on down?" Today was the day. Photoschmoozer and buddy Bill were looking for a different kind of adventure - good food, good music and a great atmosphere. Here we found it all!! I read about Donna on the Bellefonte cafe blog http://www.bellefontecafe.blogspot.com/. When I saw their menu, I knew it was the place to be - fine natural and creative foods. In their full sized bathroom - complete with cast iron tub - I read an article about Donna - how she had been a music promoter and just got tired of the fast life. She needed to find something to slow down...and here she is. Sunday brunch is from 12-3 - get there when they open because it fills up quickly. The other reason - slow cooking of a sort - Donna takes her time to personally and carefully prepare the food. It's worth the wait...

and while you are waiting - the other piece of the adventure - is the music you will experience with Betty and the Bullet - yep that's Betty behind the bass - and check out her shoes - a dream shot for Photoschmoozer who has been photographing shoes for lots of years! The group is talented - the music has a lively rhythm - and the time just passes with enjoyment. What more can I say except that we will be back. I think there is more to the Bellefonte neighborhood than we could explore yesterday.

This was how we chose to spend out Super Sunday - still home to watch some of the Super Bowl and then Downton Abbey - that's is what has hooked us for the past four weeks! It's a grown-up Brit soap opera - well done!!

Ducks in a row.....

Yesterday was an unsettling day. I have been working on a project for awhile now and of course, in my usual 'patient' way, want things to be done now!! What I can't understand is WHY others can't dance to the same beat and rhythm and pay attention to what I think is important. My word for it all is frustrating to say the least. That is why I am reading a new book called PATIENCE!! I have to understand from others' perspectives and go forward with the balance I so seek!! So at the end of the day, I did one of my best things - went out in nature and to the water. As I was sitting on the steps by the beach at Red Bank National Battlefield, I was gazing at the rocks. I had to laugh when I saw this picture - I used to work with a boss who always talked about 'getting our ducks in a row'. Gosh - I gaze at this and have begun to put life in perspective - and my ducks in a row!! The project will succeed and even surpass expectations!! Go Girl!!

With the next two pictures, I was playing with the camera - I put it on continuous shoot and it was fun to be able to see the waves and in the next shot - the water splashing on the rocks. Guess that is ducks in a row too huh?? Out to nature now!!

Frank's "Fenomenal" Faces!!

It was a perfect day, so friend Mary Ann and I headed north to Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton Twp, NJ for a photography exhibit and talk. The gallery was displaying 21 photos selected from more than 100 amateur pictures submitted and Frank Digiovanni was the photographer/artist chosen to jury the works. He was to share what he saw and how he selected the works. Many of the artists were in the audience - probably most of the audience - and were eagerly waiting for Frank to talk about their work and how he chose it. He did that for some of them, and then got so excited about how he experiences photography! For him, it is a stillness with nature - so Photoschmoozer quickly identified with that part of him!! I challenged myself to capture some of the many faces he showed us throughout the talk. I want to share with you, as I did Frank, that there is a term - MIKSANG- for what he so loves - the write up on the website http://miksang.com/miksang.html

says that at its most basic level miksang is concerned with uncovering the truth of pure perception. It's about being totally honest about what we see - straight shooting. There's even a book that has been written called The Practice of Contemplative Photography by Andy Karr and Michael Wood. Check them out and lay aside all of your wishes to know the technical aspects of your camera. You won't be disappointed.

At the PAWS reading program at the Gloucester County Library last night, yes, I met Sohpie and MC her trainer BUT I also met some totally fascinating children and their parents as well. This 9 year old was very wise and cute and personable. She brought a quick book with her - it was a children's picture book but she knew she could read it quickly. I asked if this was the type of book she normally read and she said no, it was too easy. I asked what her favorite might be and she said Biographies. When I searched further and we talked more, I discovered that she preferred biographies of women. "Who is your favorite?" Without a moments hesitation, she said Mother Theresa. I know that Mother Theresa is all about peace and love and hmmmmmmmmmmm I wonder how she felt about cupcakes?!?

PAWS for People: Precious!!

A few weeks ago at the Staples store in Glassboro, I needed help and found the friendliest face to get to what I was looking for. We started talking - what a funny thing for Photoschmoozer to do!! Quickly Mary Chris - or MC as fellow employees call her, and I became fast friends. How "Unusual" for me - not!! We talked about what I do MC said she had a perfect person/photo op for me. I needed to meet Sophie! OK I was game. Who was Sophie? Well, turns out she is a border collie/black lab - a pet therapy companion that MC has been in training with through PAWS for People. In this particular program, MC and Sophie go to libraries and children get in line with their favorite books to read to Sophie. Yesterday, I was in Staples again and MC said they were going to be at the Gloucester County library for reading that very night. Why not said Photoschmoozer and right after dinner, I headed out the door. What a treat I discovered!!

The mission of PAWS for People is "to lovingly provide elders, children and folks with disabilities individualized, therapeutic visits with a gentle affectionate pet. Now look at this picture and lets talk about affection. Some of the children are a tad hesitant because Sophie is big for their small size but many, like this little girl, have come for many sessions and are totally in love with Sophie. Here is a brother and sister duo - found out today that they are students at Mullica Hill Friends school (I met their parents at lunchtime at the Bus Stop Music Cafe in Pitman- totally by accident!!) They come to the library all of the time and I do believe that Sophie has come to recognize and welcome them!! PAWS is an all volunteer non-profit organization and is always interested in talking with potential volunteers (302) 351-5622.

Sometimes Sophie doesn't have to listen to a story but thrives on the attention. Sometimes the attention can come from a 'child' of any age - see how quickly these two have come to appreciate one another. It's definitely a win-win!!

By the end of the evening, Sophie is definitely ready for some of her own quiet time. Tonight the program had 19 children come to read to the 4 dogs - Sophie has friends see. So Sophie's program is called PAWS for Reading and is basically geared to children 3-11 to improve their reading and communication skills.

Sophie and Photoschmoozer has a private conversation last night and she has agreed to find a Saturday in the summer to come and meet her favorite friends - children - at the Uptown Pitman Farm Market. See you there!!

Talk to Everyone...You Never Know!!

Once upon a time oh a few years back, Photoschmoozer was at the Uptown Pitman Arts and Music Festival - sitting at the Bus Stop Music Cafe and listening to the music of Pine Wolf and the Pack. They were fantastic, but what really attracted my attention was the sax player. I just felt connected to his energy - aside from the fact that he blew a great horn (is that a good way to put it??) Over the years, we have connected and reconnected at the Bus Stop for various music events. Then a few months back, Larry Geiger shared that he had just been hired as the new Executive Director of Main Street Woodbury. Great for him and what a find for Woodbury. If anyone could work to make them grow stronger, I had faith that Larry could make that happen. Last month, as Uptown Pitman Farmer's Market began to gear up for the 2012 season, we thought about what could make us grow. Larry came right to my mind - hey, Woodbury has a Farm Market and it is on Friday - so what if we created a consortium of Gloucester County Farm Markets and worked together to build the success for all of us. What a win-win. Today, Larry came to the Bus Stop and we all talked for hours - walking away with a plan to share joint advertising and even consider offering vendors a special 'twofer' if they signed up for both of our markets. Once again - listen to Photoschmoozer - talk to everyone around because you never know what you have to learn or teach or share!! You can be sure there will be more Larry stories as time goes on. WOW!!!

Meet the TEAM - and meet them again and again as you become a member of the Whole Foods Wellness Center in Princeton, NJ - only one of 5 in the United States. What a gift to the people of the area (and those who live a 'bit' farther away). This is the team who organizes, cooks, and shares so much knowledge. Today we had cooking demonstrations, lectures and tours - food to taste and new friends!!

Funny thing - when I read the invitation announcement, I saw that at 10 there would be a bread baking! Then I got there - and early - and the bread had already been baked though it was still warm! I had to chuckle because it was a bread breaking ceremony for the new site - rather like a ribbon cutting, but since it was Whole Foods, well...isn't this a natural - crusty bread with lots of grains and seeds!!

Let the fun begin.

Yes, as I said, it was the Grand Opening - if I plan this right, I can join and go, maybe once a week (after all - 54 miles and an hour's travel) but all for the one monthly fee, I can do cooking classes and lectures and get a 10% discount when I shop for the healthy foods. Gosh don't I sound like an advertisement?!?!?

Beauty in a Block of Ice...Stop and Reflect

Just the other day, I got out of the car and stopped to look. There, sitting in our yard was a block of ice that Bill had dumped from a big plastic bucket. I saw the glimmer of the sun - looked at it closely and knew that Photoschmoozer had to go and get the camera. I just sat with it and looked at the lines, the cracks, the glimmer...it was a perfect example of life and all of its components. Then I just had to tip it over and crack it open to get at the heart of it all. As I sat there on the sunny day, this is what I saw - and the longer I sat there, the sun shone and the ice melted and well...more to sit and reflect on. I always say to Stop and Be Still and pay attention to what is in front of you in the HERE and NOW. Life's lessons is we can be quiet enough to allow them!!

Grandma, Purple Shoes and Buildings!!

It was the last day of the Christmas exhibit at the Brandywine River museum - trains and dolls and natural ornaments on the big trees - seems like we were there when Rebecca and Kathryn were very small and saw a lot of the same things. Nice for a refresher and seeing the new displays for the dolls and the doll houses. It was a treat and the day was beautiful - so a ride was our pleasure. Of course, Photoschmoozer is always looking about and down to see what kinds of shoes are to be seen. This beautiful little girl had on the cutest shoes - and I asked to take her picture. She was thrilled and so was her grandmother. Then Grandma asked what I was planning to do with it and I told her about the Shoe video - the song that Tony wrote and the recording that is to happen this week with Minas - WATCH FOR ANNOUNCEMENTS ABOUT THIS!! I told her I was planning to write at least one book about Shoes - and she was so excited to tell me about her book. Meet Elaine...

One day she and her young grandson went into Philadelphia and as they were driving around, he looked about and said, "Grandma - the buildings are touching the sky!" It gave her an idea for a book - and that she did! She was so excited - has written it and has an illustrator - has self published it - and has had some successes with selling it. She had luck with Borders and then they closed - she was thinking about contacting Barnes and Noble next and then I told her about their news - at least Chapter 11. So she is exploring alternative marketing ideas. We talked about products that might go along with it as well. For me, there were two things that were really exciting -

1. Her enthusiasm for what she is doing

2. Her excitement for me and her willingness to help me in any way she could!! She suggested several books - one a children's book - absolutely!!

Capture the Moment: Express Yourself!!

First things first. A gift to myself - remember you have to nurture youself as well as others to enjoy life to the fullest - is to get my hair cut and colored every six weeks or so. Today, Dawn Gorman, my stylist at Alfred Stephens Salon in Pitman, said, "Let's do something light and bright!!" SURE! And she did. When it was all done, I loved the color and felt like Goldilocks - no bears around!! I knew that it would last just this one day because, well, to be honest, I just don't have the patience to blow dry it and get the same effect IF I could!! So fun it was. See - in the past I have often switched stylists because it got to be too much sameness - and now, can you believe, I have been going to Dawn for more than 10 years!! Life in small town USA!!

Then we got silly and why not. Express myself - some of the many faces of Photoschmoozer!! This one is my fun and loving face!!

A bit perplexed here - what are we doing? When will you stop taking pictures??

Here I get the chance to be like niece Kat who always seems to enjoy sticking out her tongue when anyone has a camera to take her picture!! How NOT flattering - but hey it was part of the fun!!

Happy New Year from Photoschmoozer!

It was New Year's Eve at Botto's in Swedesboro with Almost Fab - what a fun time! Good food, good friends and great dancing feet! For those of you who know me, you are aware that I love to take pictures of unique shoes. This night, there were so many on the dance floor! I had initially left my camera in the car, but by the time the evening moved forward, I couldn't ignore the opportunities!!

To try out the indoor photography, the flash and the shoe opportunities, I visited with friend, Cheryl first and we took time laughing and giggling and posing her feet! Even got a cool dark red toenail in the picture!! Notice the cute bow on the front - and wow were the heels high!!

If I could wear heels, these would be in my wardrobe (alas many of you know of the foot surgery that didn't quite 'work'!) So I wear what is flat and comfortable and strike up great conversations with those who take the risks, have great balance and parade around in four inch heels. These were definitely my favorites of the night - and they were sitting right next to Cheryl. Fancy that. Something about the pattern on the carpet complimented them too!!

Now these amazing shoes never left the dance floor the entire evening. I sat and watched and wondered - first of all, how did she stay upright?? and how did she walk? and how did she move the body and dance as she did? It's a mystery to me but definitely something simple for this dancer!!

Sat with friends tonight - and these shoes belonged to Lillian - when we first walked in, it wasn't the shoes, but the sexy stockings that caught my attention - then the white shoes and the sparkly jewels! When I wanted a picture, Lillian had already put on her soft dancing shoes, but as we talked, she was totally willing to put the shoes back on and pose them for me!! Thanks to my new friend for the photo ops!! Hope we create more of these.

Talking to the folks at the library today about the next show - think I will call it EXPRESS YOURSELF - and it will be all shoes!! What fun - shoe photos - a music video for shoes - and some art cards too - express yourself - pick a card for who you would like to be! Happy New Year!!

The Glory of a Year Well Spent - Counting Down

Glorious - I know I have shared these sunsets from my window many times over this year, but I am always awed by the magnificence of the colors that just come as I sit and watch. This one has made me reflect on the year gone by - sure there were ups and downs, but more gratitude and blessings than anything else - and those are truly what I choose to remember! We have wonderful 'children' - that multiplied this year as we now have our son and his wife too - we have our health, home, friends and family. I have rediscovered Photoschmoozer and my joy of people and their stories through my photography. I could go on...but instead, I choose to sit in the peaceful thoughts of a year well spent!! Happy New Year!!

If something happens more than once, then it is a tradition - right? Well friend Susan lives in NY state - moi - here in s.Jersey. She visits her mom in Reading and so we plan a 'halfway' visit. Last year was King of Prussia Mall and I knew that I did not want to venture there the day after Christmas - so I got out a trust map atlas and found a halfway spot - West Chester, PA - had only driven through. After coffee and chat at the local Starbucks, we went off to explore. Right down the street, we were drawn into Acorn Style Cottage. Why? What? The shop was filled with the loveliest 'eye candy'. We were attracted to the slippers - whimsical - personal and just pretty. I wanted to buy a pair for Izumi - but couldn't get ahold of 'the kids' to find out shoe size. another time. The store was also filled with hand decoratede furniture and unique jewelry - I would have bought at least one piece in a previous lifetime but now I am filled with gratitude to be able to see the artistry!!

Then I met Zena and I discovered the true 'gift'/jewel of the shop! She is an artist - was in the midst of sanding a piece of furniture but took the time to stop and share so much information with us. Funny story - as I looked at the jewelry, I saw the artist's card and commented on how charming she was. Zena chuckled and shared that the photo on the card was not the artist but one of the college students who worked in the shop! She had lots of cards for different things - each one graced with yet another beautiful model!! Live and learn! Zena described the artist - quite different from the photo on the card.

As we were saying good bye, I asked Zena if she was a HUGGER?!? She said, "Of course" and we hugged tight and long, It was so warm and wonderful - I felt so connected!! Here is the lesson I took away from Zena:

"WHEN PEOPLE HUG, THEY ENLARGE EACH OTHER'S ENERGY"

You can bet that happened that Monday in West Chester!!

Still fascinated by the variety of styles for those slippers! They will draw me back as will more exploration of Gay Street in West Chester, PA! Happy Days to come!!

Wishing to meet Seward!! Just Happened!!

Have you ever visited the Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton Twp, NJ near Trenton? Well let me suggest to you that it is an everchanging and incredible experience. Knowing that the weather was to be a balmy winter's day - 60 degrees on December 22 with sunshine to accompany the day, Bill and I set off earlyish (for us anyhow) to explore. Photoschmoozer was alive and well and in the mode of just being open to spontaneous experiences - and that she received. First, conversations with Kathy in the gift shop - another whole story! Then I said to her, "Does Seward Johnson come here often?" She said there are some organized visits, but he just comes and hangs out quite a bit. I said I hoped that one day I would have the opportunity to meet the man whose vision, energy and works created this place. Off we went.

This is a sculpture of Seward Johnson - isolated him as he sits among friends at an afernoon party on the Grounds. You have to explore and find it!

Then as we wandered and looked, I saw a man strolling with friends. I looked and ?!?!?!?!? Yes...Now remember how I talk about Photoschmoozer and just opening conversations?? I walked over and said, "I wonder what your name might be?" He responded, "I have many names but today I am Seward!!" I shared my wish - and my wish come true - and then as we chatted, I asked if I could take his picture - no problem in posing - and since we were right by one of his sculptures - fairly easy to do on the Grounds - I asked him to sit with his 'friend'. WOW - I was like such a 'groupie' that the only thing I forgot was to ask Bill to take my picture with him!! Have to get him in the habit of doing that spontaneously rather than watching!! Within seconds, I could hear Seward's sense of humor and totally appreicate his panache - how many guys - except a person who is so totally creative, daring and true to himself would walk about with a purple and blue pashma scarf?? Totally fitting!! So - NEVER be afraid to talk to anyone - life is too short!! Thanks Seward for a most exciting few minutes!!

Elmhurst's Winningest Lottery Seller!!

Meet Jim - we did!! We were in Chicago just weeks ago for Jon and Izumi's wedding. It was time to for us to meet our new Japanese family. We took the train from Chicago to Elmhurst - arriving earlier than expected so Photoschmoozer and friend could 'nose around' and check out the place. After all, it's where our 'children' are living, so we had to meet their potential new friends!! We went into this cigar shop and discovered so much more. Jim has been there for years and loves to share stories about the area and what's happening. Then we told him about the wedding and we decided to buy a few WINNING lottery tickets for the wedding date 12/3/2011. No problem - lots of shared laughs - and then I asked if I could take his picture to remember him when we won! No problem - we had made friends already and he just posed BUT then I made sure to notice his cap - and Bill's too - men of the same vintage wearing their caps. So another photo op.

Jim said that if we won, we could come by his place and see the "Gone Fishing" sign in his window. Better luck next time - when we go back we will be sure to visit and buy yet another 'winning' lottery ticket!!

Birds Birds Birds Everywhere!!!

Looked out the window the other morning and the beautiful blue sky was totally FULL of blackbirds! What a sight. This has been going on for a few days and I decided that the moment must be recorded though I am sure that I am not the first. Information has been coming to me that these are a variety of black birds, red winged blackbirds and others in migration. They stay together for the winter and then go their separate ways in the Spring. We have seen fields just covered with them as well. Goes along with my theme of UNITY - stick together when you need support. There is strength in numbers and knowing that someone else has your back!!

Value, Affirmation and Friendships!!

Never take a friend for granted. We aren't gifted with many real ones in life and when they come along, we have to step back and just be still with the realization of what happens in the relationship and be at peace with it!! This is Allison and me when I still thought that short hair was who I "needed" to be to be 'proper'. Then I would have been acceptable that my hair was 'age appropriate' - really!! Allison and I met years ago and then remet and got to know one another - we trained together, laughed and talked and planned and lived with DARE to AFFIRM - shared common interests - and now share a friendship that comes of knowledge and familiarity with LIFE and memories as our commonality. Just to acknowledge APPRECIATION for this. Why this and why now? Maybe it is a comparison that led to this appreciation - the other night, I needed to hear a friend's voice for comfort - for reassurance - and I called another. She didn't answer and didn't call back. The next day, I got a 'coach/cheerleader' email that told me that she was there in the virtual world and IF we had talked, this is what she would have said. Thanked her for the words BUT said what I really wanted/needed was the minutes of friend time and a voice. I asked her to share how she defines friend/friendship?!? I suppose I could ask that of many others - a survey - but I know in my heart how I think of it - and yes, I have been told that I have unrealistic expectations - but geeeeeeeez I am human!! Technology can easily get in the way of real time caring or at least voice contact on the phone! Maybe I am getting older - but I totally appreciate and value the contact of my friends and family!! Happy Holidays!!!

It Don't Bother Me None!!

Meet some of the important women in my family - standing at the back - Gram - Kate - definitely a person who offered me unconditional love - someone I treasured in my life always - someone I could go to when I thought life wasn't "fair" - she's been gone from my life on earth since 1966 but never a minute away from my heart! She always pretended to be a strong woman - and in many ways she was - but when someone hurt her in some ways, she always said, "It don't bother me none" as the tears were streaming down her cheeks. Lately there have been strange happenings (to me at least) in relationships - and as I have been told it is not my problem but something the other person has to work through, I can say, "Sure it don't bother me none" but my issue is that I want everyone to like me - and me them - and when a person backs away - and really can't talk about it - well....

The other two women - front right is Gram's mother - Bubba we called her - Mary to others - didn't know her well but sure she too had an influence in thoughts and feelings in my heart. The other person - front left is my mother's mother - Nanny - my memories of her - wew visited often and I even lived with them for a summer in college - is a kind person who did not share feelings/affection. Two very different grandmothers each affecting my life - one affecting my father and his sense of caring - and one affecting my mother and her emotional withdrawal. So it is genes or is it environment? For years, I have straddled that fence and as I ponder it all - I am still there - it has to be a combination!! Wonder how I am perceived?? To some, I am too emotional - to others - they want to be with my energy - to others - I am too intense - so in the perception and eyes of the other - the challenge is NOT TO JUDGE SELF THROUGH THE EYES OF OTHERS. Accept and believe in our own wholeness and beauty!! That's life!!

My guys - Bill and Jon - share a love of music and musical instruments - so as we spent time together in Chicago for Jon and Izumi's wedding, one of the places on the must see list was the Chicago Music Center. Here they are posing for me before they entered the store. For me, Whole Foods was just around the corner and that was where I was headed for wonderful berries and healthy food!!

On the way back to meet them, I stopped still in my tracks as I looked in a window and saw this young woman posing. A bit unusual to see a bride posing on the window ledge of a building? First instinct: stop and take her picture. Second thought: be still and see what I have discovered?! I saw about a dozen people standing around her with cameras. Then I walked close to the door of the building and saw the sign: Chicago Photography Center. Did I go in!! You bet!! Was I welcomed? You bet? I had come upon a weekend class for wedding and event photography. When I went in, I saw a book on the counter : Capturing Beauty with Your Camera!! Could I make it mine? YES and the author was one of the center's teachers - so another staff member encouraged me to stop him in the midst of class so he could sign my book. His message from the book: ABS Always Be Shooting In some ways it is like I share - go out and about, be still, look and see what gifts are all around you!

COMING BY SPRING!!! So many things are popping! Remember I have shared here before about SHOES and my fascination with people's choices?? Well have I shared with you that I have close to 1200 pictures of feet and shoes? Have I shared my thoughts about Unity and Diversity related to shoes?? Have I shared about my friend Tony and The Journey (http://www.ijlife.com/ ) Maybe I have - maybe you have forgotten. But I talked with Tony about shoes - and my photos - and his love of music and composing came front and center. He is about finished with a song about SHOES - will combine my photography, his musical skills and the voices of some really fantastic musical artists!! In addition, since I am Photoschmoozer and Art cards/prints are my 'thing' - there will be a line of Art cards - maybe they will be called Uniquely You - Express Yourself - or another name - watch for the launch in early Spring!! Always keep your eyes and ears open for the synchronicities of life and talk to folks because who knows what will come of it all~~

Let the Holiday Lights Shine!!

It's the reason for the season - LIGHTS - to me these Holidays are about letting our own lights shine - seeing the beauty and light in each person - and lighting that candle or Christmas light to guide us through the darkness. This year, since Jon and Izumi got married and have a Christmas tree in their new house, it has given Bill and me a renewed sense of spirit, joy and love for these Holidays. Our 'children' are together and celebrating, and we can celebrate them! As we walked down Michigan Avenue in Chicago last Saturday, we were gifted with the spectacle of lights - giant Christmas trees and just a spirit of wellness. We saw HOPE - the gift from Robert Indiana - and we celebrated life with our new extended/blended family. Though we might not see them often, we know that we have begun to create cherished memories and traditions together. Oh JOY!!

It's been 40 years since the day we were married and now we find ourselves in Chicago - yep that's Bill standing by Robert Indiana's Hope statue - Why are we traveling to the windy city in the beginning of December?? A very special reason -our son Jon was to be married 12/3/11 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Chicago. Our hope for him and his bride - as we built our extended family from US and Japan - is that they will have all of the love, caring, compassion and communication - those strong gifts that will guide their marriage to thrive!! I am proud to be the "American Mummy" and also know that I will be patient and respectful as we build our relationship. We have a lifetime - and that is totally special.

Let me tell you who this is - her name is Jeannie and she is so totally special - warmth, compassion, affirming, and an excellent yoga instructor besides! Late in the Spring, a friend recommended that I go to the Senior Center for Yoga. I decided to go and meet the instructor. Found out that I couldn't make her class in the morning (was going to Meditation) but started going to her class at Kennedy Hospital in the afternoon. It was a huge class - more than 25 older women - Photoschmoozer included!! Yet one thing I noticed is the personal comments and touches that Jeannie always had to offer the class. Now I have chosen Yoga rather than meditation on Monday morning and we have develop a nice group - maybe half a dozen of us. Jeannie even went to Kripala this summer to study Yoga for seniors with some researchers from Duke University. Aren't we the lucky ones?? A few weeks ago, she and I listened to The Journey (http://www.ijlife.com/ , code MM99) and she was totally captivated. Today she used part of it in class. The part that is so very special to me though is about Photoschmoozer - Jeannie came to my Birthday celebration last week and spent a looooooooong time studying all of the pictures - and there are plenty. Today she went on and on talking about my gift and my eye - I said it before and I will close with the same thought again - I am wealthy with the affirmations and compliments about my work. Thank you world!!!

66 and Celebrating! Photoschmoozer steps out!!!

LIFE is a celebration and each year as my birthday come about, I know that I have so much to be thankful for...and so many 'riches' in my life from my family, friends and what I love doing in life!! This year, I decided to have a show at the McCowan Library in Pitman - a celebration of me and my art - and to have a grand opening!! It was a special time!! I always have a special thanks to 'my guy' for all of his love and support - Bill is always there for me - hey 40 years and counting!! And the flowers from Jon made us feel like he was in the room with us!!

This year TonyZony came into my life with The Journey (http://www.ijlife.com/, code MM99) I listen to this very special CD - meditation and body relaxation- but so much more - a way to be still (my favorite Photoschmoozer theme) and discover so much about self!! It's so much about life and inner awareness. Conni~Joi, Spirit of Joi - is also traveling on her life's journey and will soon be launching a song called The River - written by Tony and performed by her. They came to celebrate with JOI!! She is so talented in so many ways and has been striving to recognize and realize all of her gifts!

Here is some of the display that I created for the celebration and for the public. I have come to realize that one is wealthy with the affirmations and compliments for my work. I see, I create and I bring JOY to people's lives. If/when they choose to take some home for their walls - well - that is good too!! The show will be hanging for at least a month - and then I am beginning to think of another!!

LIFE is so meant to be lived each and every day! Hmmmmm I wonder what today will bring - another pink sky for daybreak - sunshine - love - yoga - and the spontaneous joy that comes from life's surprises - remember I call them synchronicities - be awake, be aware and pay attention!!

Just a few days ago, the birthday celebrations began! Why not celebrate LIFE and all of the years that I have lived with total love and appreciation for all of my gifts. This day was lunch with my dear friend Allison - during the conversation, she reminded me of what I had done for us for DARE to AFFIRM - first of all, created the concept - then began the dance - and even did the shoes!! Yep, I painted these and took the picture with my incredible striped toe socks?!? Why remember this and why now? Well Photoschmoozer is stepping out!! I have hung a Photography exhibit at the McCowan Library in Pitman and have invited everyone to celebrate with me - an opening night catered affair! Yeah for me!! Yeah for Life!! yeah for Friends and Family! Just Yeah!!!

Patience and a Bit of Perfection!!

I like to think that Photoschmoozer is all about people and their stories. Though I still favor those and know that they add ZEST to my life, lately, I have been focusing on the gifts from nature. Today is no different. Bill and I went to Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, PA for their annual chrysanthemum show. The whole conservatory is filled with mums of all colors, sizes and shapes. The one that is awesome is the one giant plant with a zillion blossoms. This year it is 1101 or something close to that. Last year, it was just under 1000. No matter huh because how much time and patience it takes (17 months) to take one plant and grow and groom and prune and plan for this magnificent display to occur. The volunteer - my people story for the day - saw our interest and came right over with his stories about how the tree was grown and then transported to the conservatory. It takes many people a long time to do this! We also learned that the grounds we walk through at Longwood is less than half of the acreage that they own and use for growing/production!! So - it takes time, patience and skill - just as our living life does!!! Please remember this lesson and be patient with yourself and those around you. It's my life challenge!!

Then there is outside with the lush colors of Mother Nature still in evidence to gift us! Today what fascinated me was the sizes and shapes of the trees. Talk about time and patience - the trees are huge, some gnarled, some with trunks so large we couldn't wrap our arms around them together - but all as a gift for us to remind us of the awesomeness of life!! Now, as the dusk came, the little twinkly lights in all of the trees came alive in all of their colors to be yet another candy feast for the eyes.

New Beginnings in Life's Adventures

LABYRINTH

The labyrinth is a walking meditation. Aside from Grace Cathedral, in San Francisco, my introduction to this world, one of my favorites is the one at the Episcopal Church in Lewes, DE. At the beginning of a 'friend' time at the DE beach, and the beginning of my birthday celebrations (never one day!!), this was my choice. My question going in was about relationships - how to let them be and let them grow. The leaves on the labyrinth were some answers for this day. Some of the path is covered/obscured by the crunchy leaves - and at other spaces, the way was totally clear. Parallel that to life and it's a simple answer in patience. Let the wind blow and let the decisions come as they will.

DAYBREAK

Still on the quest, and peaceful to listen and learn, spirit woke me at 5:45 the next morning. I knew I needed to go out to the balcony to watch the sunrise. (The night before, we sat there and watched the full moon on the ocean!!) The sky had bands of color but where was the sun?!? Lesson learned - before the sun comes up, the day breaks (just like the sky colors after the sun goes down below the horizon!) The colors in the sky were awesome - the birds began to wake up and a few fisherman came to the beach. Then the sky gradually became totally pale - and then...sunrise!! What a total gift!!

SUNRISE

About half an hour after my daybreak experience, I saw the red ball on the horizon and sat, listening to The Journey and meditating as I watched the sun gradually come up higher in the sky. My birthday is a gift and I celebrate in anticipation every year. I look for the special gifts I am offered - and totally live in gratitude for them!! This time, I have gratitude not only for The Universe and the gifts we are given, but also for the friends in my life. My friend Annee and I spent such beautiful time enjoying one another's company and all of the beauty around us - as well as sharing some great meals and terrific conversation!! Thanks!!

This morning I awoke thinking about Photoschmoozer, life and photography. I wondered how long it had been since I first met Bob Reid and joined his photography class at Gloucester County college. I was amused when I thought it was about 3 years and then thought about this photo - I did this for a self-portrait when I took the class - and that was when I was celebrating turning 60!! Now, for my 65th I had a drum circle celebration at Bus Stop Music Cafe and now for my 66th - welcome in Social Security - I am going to have a Photography exhibit at the Pitman library. I am planning a "Meet the Artist" Celebration and what a perfect time for it - 11/21~~ Another fantastic birthday celebration!! Happy Days Martie!! You Go Girl!!! Hmmmm wonder what I would do for a self-portrait today - 6 years later? Hmmmmmmmmmm.......

Sunsets Light Up the Sky -

Yesterday was one of those days when it was time to distance myself from the world - to be still - walk - watch - and reflect. For weeks I have been wanting to go to East Point Light House on the Delaware Bay and that I did. I have been rather emotional and sitting in the sand by the water is totally soothing! The sun's shining helped a bunch too. At sunset, I talked to a woman who was there with her phone taking pictures - asked where she was from and she said Pitman!! As we talked more, she remembered I took pictures of the awesome clematis she had growing in her yard!! We talked...and talked...and were still for the 'light show'. Then as I was about to leave and had started the car, I took one more look - the low headlights from my car just provided a magnificent lighting for the final picture of the day. It's like the saying that tells you to take pictures and then turn around because the best one might just be there!!

This is a funny story - no, not the horse and the setting but something that happened last night! There was a Coach bag bingo fundraiser in Pitman and I set up my photography for sale. What a crowd and how fascinating to see the groups coming in with their trays of sandwiches and snacks - they gather a group of friends and come and play bingo! Is this related - well maybe not but at one point a woman was looking at my cards and said, "This is my horse!" She recognized the setting and the horse. They no longer board the horses there, but this was definitely the spot! It's been a few years since I took the picture while out driving in the country! Now she asked if I would come and take pictures of the other three horses too. She bought the three cards I had and said "Isn't it funny that the owner has to buy pictures of her own horse!" One of the best stories of the evening!!

Last weekend I decided to go to the Whole Life Expo in King of Prussia. Snow was predicted but I just knew there would be synchronicities and healing experiences at the event - so off I went!! The event was huge - well over a hundred vendors of all sorts. Since I am traveling on "The Journey" and meditating with that CD, I wondered who might appreciate knowing about it. Well I found several other individuals who were also selling Journey CDs and magazines. Opportunities for affiliation - possible - and always opportunities to offer the new Journey series of my photography. (Stay tuned for more info). I was sitting so I could get a healing for my feet with a powerful energy device, and right in the next booth was Dr. Sha's work. I discovered his Power Healing book months ago and now had the opportunity to have Master Allen sing me the Love, Peace and Harmony channeled work. I bought the CD and have been playing it quietly for about a week now. Yesterday, I could see how my Christmas cactus have responded - no others in the house are doing the same thing. Awesome! To me, the flowers and I are feeling powerful effects!!

Last Saturday, I went to an Expo in Ft. Washington, PA filled with health, healing and some truly amazing people who have their messages to share with the world. I was gifted with several healings - one a computer/sounds for getting in touch with the Divine. Another, a device where I rested my feet and energy was sent through it with special pulses. (sorry for the lack of technicality on these - just the way it is!!). Then as I was walking about, I saw a woman standing and looking about. She came up to me and asked if I knew Doreen Virtue. I said, "Sure, isn't she speaking soon?" She said yes and showed me a ticket. My comment, "I can't afford the $50 right now." She said that she was giving me the ticket!! OMG - My Mom always taught me to say thank you - and that I did. Two hours later, I left the auditorium with a clear message, LET GO AND LET GOD!! I am always writing here about synchronicities - awake and aware and they keep happening. Another story later about the title of this blog -

Morning at the seashore - what more could a girl ask for? Well - sunshine at sunrise would be a blessing. On this particular day, I woke up very early - staying with Lindsay in Avalon - to go out to the beach and watch the sunrise. I drove down to the dunes and found what I thought was a 'comfy' spot. Until I sat down, I didn't realize that all of those grasses blowing in the wind were full of stickers. No matter - took care of that and just sat - waiting. There was a bit of brillian red on the horizon and a tad of pink in the sky and then lots of clouds. It was peaceful and I sat listening to The Journey CD (http://www.ijlife.com/ ). The last track is about coming home. When Cyndi said the words "I am home" - you guessed it - the clouds parted and the sun came out bright and warm. When the piece was over, the clouds came back. What a strong message about where home is for me. The sand is in my shoes, the ocean breezes blow across my face and I feel totally blessed - and loved!!

Bill and I have lived together in Pitman for close to 40 years. For lots of them, I have lamented that I had no friends to hang out with, do things spontaneously or just sit and have a cup of tea. Well - that has changed - and changed - and changed. A long time ago I met a woman at the Mullica Hill Friends School - we talked some but our children were different ages, so we just talked when we saw one another. Then a few years ago, I started seeing her in K-Mart and the grocery store. One day I went to Restore - the Habitat for Humanity store and there she was. We traded stories and memories and phone numbers too and now I have the buddy I have searched for - and she has been here for a long time - just like me - well maybe not as many years as I have but awhile. We do crafts, go to yoga class, laugh and talk and share feelings and it is wonderful . Now that I am open to it all - gosh - so many more of these friends are around town and in my life - just had to open up and be more free and fun to receive - notice - pay attention - you get the idea!! Isn't life just fun?!?!? Every day in every way.

One Beautiful Dahlia - one new Friend!

Stay tuned - No - your eyes are not playing tricks on you - these are zinnias from the same garden - the dahlia picture is still in my camera and not close by. I can still tell you the story about the flower garden. A few days ago, I had to go to a local bank to get some money for some things I had bought for our Farm Market. Right where I parked was an incredibly full garden - amazing colors and flowers crowded beautifully into a person's front yard!! Yes, I took some beautiful pictures. Today Bill and I were out for a bit of an adventure and I just had to take him by the garden. A woman came out the back door and was watching us watch her house. She came forward when I called out how much I appreciated her beautiful garden. Her name is Ruby - from Hawaii - a native of the Phillipines - a retired architecht and a member of the Pitman Garden Club. We talked about gardening, the Farm Market and the garden club. She loves what she is doing - has even landscaped the auto service place next door. What a wonder she is to her neighborhood and our town! Thanks Ruby!! I asked her to come by the Farm Market on Saturday and I would have one of my cards with her dahlia. Later you will see how spectacular it is!!

There is a lot of catching up to do with the words on the blog! Life has been FULL to say the least and well, it's fun to be 'retired' - to have no responsibility but to self and those close to me - to live life to the fullest - to have dreams - to pay attention to the synchronicities - and to be FREE to FLY!! On that note, it's so totally cool that Bill and I share views of the world. Some days we just take off to see what we can see. The interesting factoid is that we often see the world from different perspectives - and for that I am grateful - it's an eyeopener. Babysitter - 36 years ago...Reconnectioins

Months ago, I got a friend request and a message from someone on Facebook who said she was our son, Jon's babysitter - oh 36 years ago!?! There is so much spam and phony messages that I was hesitant to accept the request. She wrote back with some more details and said that she even had a picture of the little guy with the almost white hair from those days. When she could find it again, she would share it. So we became Facebook friends and then she moved from Arizona back to Pitman. A week ago, she came to the Uptown Pitman Farm Market -and...well, meet Margie Nelson and welcome back to Pitman!!

Photoschmoozer - me - loves to talk to anyone - pay attention to the synchronicities of life - and make new friends! Meet Wendy Betz - here she is dressed to perform at the Bus Stop Music Cafe in Pitman with her band - Wendy Betz and the Riseing. Yes, like you, I questioned the spelling of the word - why the 'e'?? She made me notice that it got my attention as it does many others. People remember them in a different way. We casually met before this event as we listened to music on open mic nights, gradually got to talk more and now have become members in our ever evolving "Pitman family". It's focued around music, the Uptown Pitman Farm Market and now acupuncture, nutrition and alternative healing. Just one more lesson of paying attention to the synchronicities and living life! One never knows what lessons and adventure are just around the bend!!!

Sunset Across the River - the City Lights Up!!

There is a story to everything. My friends say I am a storyteller and that is the truth! Every experience is a wonderful story in the book of life! Now on lovely evening, Bill and I like to go out and find settings to watch and photograph the sunset. Tonight, we decided on Wigging Park in Camden, NJ, just across the river fro Philadelphia - see the skyline?? Little did we know that there would be a baseball game at Campbell field AND a concert right in the same area. Parking?!? Well, I stopped to ask a policeman what we could do. He directed us to talk to the guys at the parking lot and say we were just there for the sunset/photo ops. We did...no luck. I had turned around and as I was driving, the lights were flashing in my rear view mirror. The policeman was taking care of us. He told the security guy to let us park right there on the street and that he was to watch our car! Two hours later, after the sun had set in it often beautiful way, we headed back to the car - and it patiently waited for us!

This sailboat - on first glance looking like a big Chinese junk, was coming up the river. We kept taking pictures of it on its journey and this is the one I have chosen to share. Just a group of people out for a sail on a lovely late summer's evening. Not bad huh to see the beautiful buildings of the city behind them!!

Conni~Joi Waters is a talented young woman who comes to the Market to share her skills with massage therapy and reflexology - see how she is dancing with life as she totally imerses herself in what she loves - what has a passion and purpose to her! Some of our favorite times...and activities - heading to the Delaware River to watch the sun go down! When we get to Riverwinds in West Deptford, NJ, we are never alone. They have made a beautiful park, and close to sunset the benches are filled with people - often couples - and people with their dogs - waiting to catch glimpses of the beauty that Mother Nature offers us! Tonight was no exception This couple sat and sat and sat for the longest time. They never talked - they just watched - and I respected their privacy by not going and chatting them up!! Fancy that!!

There were so many opportunities tonight to catch the sun in each of its moments of setting - this one was awesome as it was just about at the horizon. Maybe it's not technically the 'perfect' picture, but it is perfect in so many ways - and totally awesome in the colors shared!!

A favorite site to share is not only the sun as it is setting, but the light it shines on the water! This couldn't be more perfect in my eyes.

The Lull Before the Storm

In my formative years, I grew up at the NJ seashore - Wildwood to be exact - and never have I seen the furor that has arisen over Hurricane Irene. We had Hazel in '59 and another in March of '63 that had us getting around town in rowboats. Never did I remember a state of emergency and mandatory evacuations. In our area, the local Shop Rite stores closed at 8 on Friday night and will be closed all weekend. I have seen many other cancellations because of what might be. Today I read that the NY City subways will be closed at noon. Wonder where she will head, what her strength will be and how everyone will fare. We can only wait and be prepared!! Peace to all.

The Energizer Bunny and Friends!!

This is a very special person- I call him the Energizer Bunny because he is often up before 6 am, goes to synagogue to pray, goes to the gym to work out and can prepare a decent meal!! This is my Uncle Irv - he is soon to be 89 and is just 'cool'. He has stories to tell, is interested in lots of things, and knows the importance of maintaining connections to his family. Just the other night he came from Philadelphia to see Jim, Jon and Greg playing at the Coffee Works in Voorhees - stopping for a bit of shopping at Cherry Hill Wegman's first. He forgot his cane, so "no problem" - he closed up the umbrella and used that to help him walk with ease. He stayed til the bitter end too - cousin Bob drives,but Irv is a good spirit. He wanted to visit family and so he did!!

Son Jon has come back to the United States after living close to 12 years abroad - Australia and Tokyo. Interesting is that he is going to live in Chicago, the last place he lived in the US before moving across the ocean. Why do I need to explain that? Well, he is here in Pitman for a few day's visit before heading off in his new charcoal gray Toyota Camry. Having him home often means music events and last night was no exception! We went to CoffeeWorks in Voorhees,NJ, to listen to Jon playing with buddies Jim Six and Greg Potter- all singer/songwriter music. When I walked in, I looked around to see interesting individuals and saw the three guys sitting at the chess table. Although they were all fascinating to watch as they intensely concentrated, Marcus was most interesting to me. I, PhotoSchmoozer shared that he would be an interesting photographic subject - and he said sure. As the evening progressed, we talked about our shared interest in photography, how to make some money with it as well as being of service and of course, types of cameras and equipment. The coolest piece - the portable printer he had. He went to the car and brought it in so he could make immediate prints of what I had taken -and he was to send one to his mom in Florida. Again, I share the lesson of not learning all there is to life unless you are still, look around you and open up to life - including people!!

For me, this is a representation of Total Peace and Gratitude for my life!! More words are not necessary- the picture expresses what I see and feel when I am still and just look. Integration...and Synchronicities

Connections...and Integration. Dial me up anytime...Ihave been contemplating my life, my interests and my connections. I have been wondering how to take what appeared to be separate entities and give priority and importance to each of them without overwhelming myself! Yesterday I woke with the word INTEGRATION firmly planted in my brain. It took me the day to ponder its significance and now I GET IT! I understand clearly that IF I have a central core of beliefs and values, then all that I do will "fit" into the picture of the whole. When I was at Grounds for Sculpture yesterday I took this picture - this morning I realized that it exemplifies my inner workings - each of the circles fits together to integrate into the whole!! Then I shared the Integration thought with my Synchronicity buddy Tony - and you guessed it - he had the same conversation last night with his wife! Oh my...just oh my!! Just pay attention...life happens!!!

Riding the White Water Rapids...in Pitman?!?!?!

On a typical day in the quiet Boro of Pitman, there is Alcyon Lake, the dam and the creek. After close to 12 hours of seriously heavy rains, nothing was typical. I walked across the sloshy fields and came upon the creek. Now doesn't this look like the white waters where folks go rafting down the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon? I just stood mesmerized by the torrents of water rushing past and changing the creek into ???

On the typical day that I am talking about, these three bushes are on the ground at the edge of the lake and NOT sitting on what appears to be their own island way out there in the lake. Where did all of the water come from and where will it go??

The ducks were 'lost'. Usually as soon as we walk toward them, they go scurrying off to get themselves to safety in the water. When we walked about, they were sitting and not moving - some appearing lost. This guy stood poised for ??? He too hadn't quite seen anything like this in his lifetime.

I missed the biggest floods of the day. A woman was there when we walked over and shared her story of the water that, earlier in the day, had come up and over the guard rails and totally flooded the streets. When we got there, things were heading back to normal....whatever that is!?!?!

Keeping with the Shoes/feet theme, this giant good is what greeted me as I was walking toward the labyrinth at the DE Art Museum yesterday. The statue, a giant sitting with his head in his hands, reminded me too much of how so many people in our country are feeling now - so to lighten up the mood, I took a picture of both of his feet. Just when I finished, this guy came by and stood looking atthe giant feet. We had a conversation about sizes and he agreed to do a comparison photo for me. Not one of his counselors came to see what I was doing taking his picture - maybe because it was over in a flash - I thanked him and he ran on his merry way. I decided to call this one Walk a Mile in My Shoes -a Comparison about life. What do you think??

A few years ago, sister Lisa and I went on a Road Trip Adventure to Cape Cod and Boston because of niece Kat. Now we went again because Kat was working in theatre for the summer in the Adirondacks. Another adventure and another road trip. Last time, I was already into taking PhotoSchmoozer pictures of people and their feet. We talked about our 'someday' book about Unity and Diversity related to people and their shoes. Now during our time in NY state, the project continued!! Here are a few of the people we met and the shoes they chose to walk in.

We went to a Native American PowWow in Harriman State Park. I was so enjoying the dancers and the drums (and yes, the crafts) that I almost forgot to stop and realize that there were incredible beaded mocassins all around me. Here's one example - the man was quite surprised when I asked him to stop so I could photograph his shoes.

These belonged to the cutest little guy asleep in his carriage and I was careful to assure his mom that I was only going to take a picture of his shoes because I thought they were wonderful! At that point, she beamed and was quite proud.

These - well - sister and I were sitting out in Lake George one early evening and her feet were just poised for the picture taking!! These were the shoes that she wore for just about all of the adventure - never would have worked for my toes, especially since my surgery, but she said they were wonderful and that had to be the truth from her perspective.

We saw several plays at the Pendreagon Theatre in Saranac Lake and the morning after found us gifted with a behind the scenes tour. Here sat a pair of shoes that had been on stage for Dangerous Liaisons the night before. Looks like they were having a well deserved rest.

The last to be shared in this blog- they belonged to quite

a character - Aimee - the owner of a great Fair Trade shop in Saranac Lake. She was colorful and we totally enjoyed being in her shop - in fact, I had to go back another day for yet another scarf for a friend - loved the work - and loved the colors too.

So we traveled for six days, saw mountains and lakes and people and here is a wonderful representation of a cross section of what we experienced. Never can tell how we will see things until we stop to take the time to look around!!

Morning Mists in the Adirondacks: View from the Rocking Chair

It was 6 am the morning of the first day we climbed the 74 steps!! and stayed at Fogarty's B&B in Saranac Lake, NY. Another time, you will see the steps- steep they are!! The night air was chilly and we slept with the windows wide open. The sun came up so early and I awoke feeling really rested. Now wasn't it just convenient that I had a perfect rocking chair to sit in and be still by the window? No chance or luck there - strategically planned. I was sitting and gazing - waking up actually -and these lilttle clouds came tip toeing across the mountains - a biggish one and then a baby following. Then,they were gone just like that!! Still gazing, I looked at the lake and saw a magical mist on the water. How still, how peaceful and how perfect. The church bells chimed the hour, a few cars went by and that was about it until we got up and went downstairs for Jack's regular breakfast - eggs and bacon served with carbs if we chose.

Lessons learned - NOT - never shoot into the sun!! In my mind's eye and as I age, the lessons learned are that rules are made to be broken! This is one case and I was gifted with this view - Never listen to everything you are told or even be good enough to follow the rules! The only rule is to do no harm to others. Other than that, let herrip!! That I did and itwas glorious!! I sat and rocked and watched for three mornings - one of my definite treasures of my NY state adventure with"Baby Sis"!! Lucky us!!

What Total Synchronicity- Fearless and Free Flies in Costa Rica!!

Yesterday I posted pictures from the Grounds for Sculpture that I called Fearless and Free- the visual representation of a conversation I have been having with my dear friend, Lois about life's journey. The sculpture was so perfect as a reminder of the rapture of JOY. This morning, in my mailbox, arrived this picture. There are several beautiful insights here that need paying attention to:

1. I just brought home the 12th Insight by James Redfield. I found the CDs and the book at the library yesterday. Last night, I began reading it and of course, you guessed it - it was totally about synchronicity!! First clue - discovering the materials

2. This morning, Lois sent me a photograph that so reminded her of the Fearless and Free photo- no accident that she has just returned from a 'life changing' retreat to Costa Rica and now has this picture to share that someone took!!

I am totally thrilled and awed by the synchronicities that life offers us. Redfield writes that we need to sloooooooow down and these life changing events will come to us. More and more, I am aware of these messages and hope that I can encourage you to get aboard the Synchronicity train!!!

Fearless and Free with a Dollop of Joyous Rapture!!

Lois is my synchronistic friend. (Well, if I reflect clearly on that statement, isn't every one of my friends a synchronistic one??) We first met years ago at Christina Pirello's cooking intensive and have continued our dance of relationships in a variety of ways- now we are acknowledging that photography is another of the paths we are to share!! The other day, we were talking about life's goals - the wish to be completely fearless and free. Next day, we sweltered as we walked the Grounds for Sculpture seeking yet more wonderful 'perfect' sculptures to photograph. One of my classmates had done photos of a ballerina and my quest was to discover her. I took pictures from many angles, but as I was looking at them, Fearless and Free jumped right out to offer me a clear message. I share her here as I have done already with my Facebook friends. She is me...I am she...who I am and what I am growing into!!

This is the companion piece to Fearless and Free. I call her Joyous Rapture-maybe Bliss- a pleasure!! You can choose the best feeliing that comes to your mind as you are still and view this picture. My greatest wish is that you take the time and receive her message. It's what we so need to do - take the time to stop, notice and reflect on the message that comes to us. Pay Attention...the Little Pieces Create a Whole!!

How often do you go out and about in the world and rush to get where you are going, forgetting to pay attention to the little details? For a few weeks now, we have been going to Grounds for Sculpture for photography class. I noticed that the majority of our classmates are taking photos of sculptures and landscapes. I soon realized that seeing things from a different perspective is what I was all about. For this class, I decided to go slowly and take the time to see...really see the details of the little pieces that make up the whole. It was a really eye opening experience and one that I would recommend to YOU!

Grounds for Sculpture: Peaceful Contemplation!! or???

There's a new sculpture by Seward Johnson at Grounds for Sculpture - at first glance it is a small unimposing building with some faces on the sides. When you walk in, there is a black couch - Dr. Freud is home?, a comfortable brown leather chair and some contrasting views to give you pause. The two collages that I have created give you an idea of what can go on in the mind - anything from frenzied anxiety to total peace and contemplation. If I had my choice, it would be the still one - the peaceful thinker. To be honest, there are days when that is not always present and the other part of the persona emerges. Look at them both and decide where you are...and where you would choose to be if you could?!?

How I would choose to be, all things being peaceful and the day being restful.

How I sometimes feel when I don't take deep breaths and instead allow the day and/or the situation to get away from me!!

Totally Awesome Little Grasshopper!!

We took our first class at Grounds for Sculpture near Trenton, NJ. The amount of sculptures placed throughout the grounds are totally amazing and well worth a trip to explore. Once again, I am enrolled in a photography class where folks want to know how to use their camera!! When will I find one where people come because they want to learn so much more about HOW TO SEE what is all around them, how to create composition, and how to be creative?? I am beginning to think that I might have to create my own to find like minded souls. Not today though. We listened to the instructor for about half an hour talking about the camera being like a computer and we needed to learn how to use the settings. Then she sent us out into the bright light close to high noon to take pictures. Don't you hear the words of the magic times for photography - aren't they early in the morning and at sunset? They call these the golden hours? Mark my word. These hours are NOT high noon!! No way. We did explore and once again, I was drawn to the beautiful lillies by the small ponds. I was still and watched but even then, I did not see the gift that I received when I got home and put the pictures in the computer. Make sure you look closely and see the bright green grasshopper watching me from the center of the flower! How lucky do I feel? Remember I talk about synchronicities? Yes, my friends, they are all around us. Just stop and see what pleases you!!

Anticipation!! Small Town USA!!

Each and every year, local folks anticipate and prepare for the Fourth of July celebration in Pitman, NJ. Much the same happens in many of the surrounding towns, and as my friend Karen says, "I have to stay home and participate because I live in my town. I am a part of it!" Much the same for us - the 5K race goes by our house as we stand on the corner to keep the traffic from interfering with the runners; the parade starts at 10 and the chairs have been set up along the parade route for days already!! Then the culmination event - the fireworks in the park. These girls obviously spent a lot of thought and time getting themselves and their babies ready. Our tradition has been 'setting a spell' with the neighbors - our chairs go across to Debbie and Dave's as we can view the fireworks among friends.

This year PhotoSchmoozer is going to do something different. Friend AnnMarie is a nursing instructor and her student site is the local Pitman Manor, senior residence. She is going to volunteer to help the residents get out to the parade. I am going to join her. We will see the events, but the time will be spent in service, bringing joy to those who have lived many more Fourth of Julys than we have - and who will continue to enjoy as long as their are volunteers to help them get out to create those memories. Life is about giving - and then you receive. Happy Anticipation of July 4th!!

The only person missing this year - our neighbor Jim has moved away and won't be with us to carouse, oogle the girls - like last year's Miss Pitman - or cause a rucus and make goofy comments as people walk by to the park. Will we miss his antics? Time will tell. Maybe someone else will take his place - or we will create new memories in a quieter way.

Baby Geese at Alcyon Lake: Unique!!

Driving past Alcyon Lake in Pitman yesterday, we had to pull over to catch the sight of the white goose and her babies. Amongst all of the mallards and Canadian geese, there is always one white one. A strange and familiar sight to see. This time, we sat and watched as she hovered near these four babies - they had a lot of white feathers - an unusual combination for the babies that usually are born at our lake. The camera was NOT in the car - how could that be?? So we came home quickly to get it and go back. As I got out to go closer, she was wary/protective, but they did not run away and I could just be close by and watch. It will be fascinating to see them as they grow - to see what color they will be as adults.

No problem at all coming close - OK it helps that I have my Canon SX10IS with a 20x zoom - but they were they just resting at the end of the day.

And closer yet to get a really wonderful picture of them paying attention to me...and not! This is what they talk about when we hear about getting our ducks/geese in a row?? Keep your eyes open and pay attention to everything in your world. There will always be gifts, treasures and pleasant surprises!! YES!!!

He's everywhere!! He's everywhere!! Anyone who drives through Pitman, NJ or walks the streets visiting the shops and restaurants, has sseen this guy - well maybe not quite so up close and personal!! Pitman had a Music Festival (before the pouring rains came) and while PhotoSchmoozer was in the park being still and looking around (and watching our son Jon playing on the stage with Jim Six), Tom came up to chat. He got in my face and the camera just happened to be there - and wow- pop-bam - there was this connection! Not sure many of us have had this opportunity to be as up close and personal as my Canon SX10IS had the opportunity to be that day, but hey, capture the moments!! That we did!!

Simplicities...and Complexities. LIFE IS FULL!!

Hmmmmm...I have noticed that it has been almost a month since PhotoSchmoozer and I have shared any information on this blog. No, that doesn't at all mean that life has been quiet. In fact, far from it. What might have started out as a simple visit from our son, Jon rapidly turned around into a series of changes that will continue to make life fascinating for months and years to come. First of all, Izumi became a reality in our lives. What FUN!! Jon decided to bring Izumi "home" to see where he had grown up. There were music events, family gatherings, days 'down the shore' in Cape May, and a short venture to Chicago for a job interview! In between, there were the best parts - rides out into the farm country that still surrounds us in South Jersey. We had just been to Mood's Farm Market and were rounding the corner to drive home when we had to stop to go and see the tart cherries growing on the trees. We learned that when the cherries arrive, Moods opens! Never knew that before. Yes, there was an apple crush and a taste of cider donut too. Now they have gone 'home' to Tokyo, I am home from multiple presentations at national conferences and well, life goes on. Saving that for another time!!

Synchronicities, Friendship and Shared Adventures!!

What seems like yesterday was actually May 2006 when I decided to invest in learning about healthy eating and cooking with Christina Pirello at her food intensive at Drexel University's cooking school. This was an adventure into the unknown and an exciting three days of learning about food, health, and how to trust your instincts to know what your body needs. Cooking is often not about recipes but about ingredients. That weekend I met Lois Brown and our friendship has grown over the years - first Saturday sessions with Christina, lots of time spent at Whole Foods in Marlton and Princeton, eating healthy food, talking about nutrition and exploring new products on their shelves. We have evolved. Lois has become a nutrition coach with the Institute for Integratve Nutrition and I have read explored and grown along with her! We each know so much and bring our interesting personas as well as an interest in learning to every visit we experience. Today, we went one step further in our dance - we are making a plan - thinking about ways we can leave our legacy and how we can guide/empower individuals.

To celebrate our relationship's expansion to new levels, after working/brainstorming and laughing for many hours, we needed to celebrate. Big Fish Grille was just down the way at the mall in Princeton and off we went - fresh tuna -and Asian noodle salad! Yum. This guy watched over us as we ate.

At one point, we stopped talking and just sat there looking at our table top. PhotoSchmoozer always has her camera at the ready and today was no different. These are the reflections of the ceiling lights that showed themselves off so brilliantly!

Nola pet the puppy; Betty watches on Fourth Friday May 2010

It's a small town and the more places we go and the more people we meet, the smaller it gets - and that, my friends, is a wonderful thing!! Last May, we were at Fourth Friday in Uptown Pitman and saw this totally adorable puppy. These two women came over to meet the dog and I just found them charming. Yes, I took their picture because they were so special to me! About 9 months later, Bill and I went to Tai Chi class at the Senior Center in Glassboro,NJ, and there were two older women in the class from Pitman. Nice to meet them and I appreciated them as role models. Months later, I was looking through pictures for the Music Festival and lo and behold -yes, you guessed it - they were the same women I had first met last May. What a totally cool connection. Now we are in class together, and I also see Betty and Nola all over town. Why just the other day, Betty was in KMart to buy her favorite shoes. Says they are the only ones she wears!! Then we went to Fourth Friday music at the Bus Stop Music Cafe and there they were!! You guessed it - we sat and talked and listened to music too. They had lots to share - info on life and health issues too. Small world - and yep, Mom, I still am talking to lots of people and loving it! Why don't you all try it too!!

Awesome Adventure!!!

Have you heard of Roberto Capucci? Well, neither had I until the brochure arrived in the mail from the Philadelphia Art Museum. WOW is what I said - fabric, design, COLOR and glorious candy for the eye. I showed this to friend, Lindsay, and we immediately got tickets and off we went. We were not in the least disappointed!! Well, one disappointment - PhotoSchmoozer couldn't take pictures and couldn't touch the fabric. Other than that - totally out of the box, unusual, creative, a genius in fashion design. He started in his late teens and by age 21, was already winning major fashion design awards and recognition. We stayed as long as we could to look at the rainbow of colors, the black and white and even several dresses just studded with phosphorescent beads - when the lights dimmed, the beads glowed. He made these with the same beads that were in the nuns' rosaries in Assissi! We talked to so many interesting people - could go one and on with stories and conversations we shared with Sandy and Irwin Perlman (no, the museum annex wasn't named after them!!). Then when we were close to leaving, I looked over to a bench and there sat Diana Frederick - a college friend and a roommate oh so many years ago! Her friend Pat was with her - and she and LIndsay were talking about stained glass windows. Pat wanted a rose window and Lindsay's sister does just that. More phone numbers exchanged! What do I tell you all of the time - continue to be awake and aware and go out and seek adventures and always be open to conversations and synchronicities. Mom, you were wrong! It is definitely important to talk with people - they all have so much to share!! These conversations bring me stories, joy and just the thrill of life!!

Early Morning Garden Visitors!~!

We don't live in the city but we don't live in the country. I wouldn't call it the suburbs because it is not a development - so what?? I would call it our backyard environment in small town, USA. To say that we are lucky enough to have our yard go back 200 feet is a blessing and to say that we have a 'wall' of bamboo on one side is both a blessing for privacy and a curse for how invasive it is - and it is NOT even ours. (Anyone have a suggestion for removing it??) Every morning we wake up and look out the windows at the gorgeous flowers blooming in the garden, but most days, if we are observant, we are gifted with something unique! One day, a pair of mallards had wandered up Cedar Avenue to eat in our backyard. By the time I got the camera and then had to change the batteries, well, they were about moving on to other dining spots, but here they are.

I've been waking up early with the birds chirping around 5:30. Today the sun was shining as well!! Happy day!! I decided to get my friend, Canon S10IS and venture out to see what was gifting us with its presence today. Aside from six different colors of rose bushes in full bloom, there were iris, calendula and peonies. Those of you who know me well, know that Super Macro close ups going into the heart and soul of the flowers is a favorite for me. Today as I was looking at the iris, I found this bug? caterpillar? what? still sleeping - just being still so I could get in there and watch him closely! It's fascinating to BE STILL and look around - the gifts and surprises are amazing. I wonder how often you, my friends, allow yourself that gift!! Do it and you will be at peace. Stillness can be so settling!! Now off to do Tai Chi!

Synchronicities Might be Life Changiing!!!!

I had to stay home to finish Water for Elephants - both to find out what happened and to pass it along to a friend so she could read it. Bill went ahead to the Bus Stop Music Cafe for open mic night and I said I would WALK there to meet him. Did just that, stopping to visit with Kim at Barcelona for a chat. When I got to the Bus Stop, the 'gang' was sitting outside - said it was too nice to go inside BUT I was hungry and did just that. Bill was sitting at a table and there was a sandwich across from him - no person - a sandwich. Eventually the guy came back and we all met. His name is Richard Hawk - he came to play and sing, but we learned so much more about him. He's a writer and a motivational speaker - much on the same kinds of topics as DARE to AFFIRM. As we were talking, all of a sudden, I saw a finger puppet being handed to me. Why?? Richard said that he always carries a pocket full ( and he has zillions of stories connected to what happens when he spontaneously gives them to someone) and I asked to see the others. The one he has pulled out was a gibbon; the one I choose was this monkey! He needs a name and I haven't settled yet - suggestions so far...Art, Erk ...and? All I know is that this little guy and I danced through some songs as Richard sang!! He even dedicated a song to his new friends, Martie and Bill. Mom, you always asked why I talked to everyone. This story is one more example of WHY and how wonderful it is!! Some of the information that Richard shared could be life changing...time will tell!!

Mulberry Tree - Survives and Thrives!!

We bought this house in Pitman in 1982 - stop and think - that is almost THIRTY YEARS ago. Except for a few years in Shamong and Maple Shade (in a apartment can you believe?!?), we have been permanent residents. Once we ran away in anger and then we came back to make peace with ourselves and the environment. I digress, but isn't that what storytelling is all about?? When we bought the house, there was a giant mulberry tree in the side yard next to the driveway. Some would say it was beautiful; some would say it was messy; we would say that there was a lot of decay and it soon had to come down. Over the years, I have chosen to maintain it as a special spot in the yard - I just call it "My Stump"! You can see how diligently and lovingly Bill has worked to maintain it for us - it's becoming more bricks and less wood, but the Stump is still a focal point. This year it has been treated to begonias, geraniums and lots of Dollar Store spinners. It's the color that greets me as I sit at my desk and gaze out into our 'back forty"!! We treat it well...and it gives us gifts! Win - win!!

Truly...Be Still...Rest...and Reflect

Last week, we journeyed to Wayne,PA to Chanticleer Gardens. Words can't express the glorious 'candy' for the eye that surrounded us as we strolled the 35 acres on a totally perfect Spring day- and the excitement was that we would have to come back many times over because it was always changing!! See, being 'retired' has its advantages. It's a pretty day so let's get in the car and go out into the world. It's not that we don't have things to do, but without a place to be daily, they can wait until another time!! YES!!

One of the first gardens we happened upon was a bed full of ranunculus! Oh my. The colors were totally spectacular and in my PhotoSchmoozer style, I just sat on the bench and gazed! No we are trying to find some of these flowers to plant in the garden so the party can go on!! Not yet,, but they will come soon. This brought back memories of a weekend in Annapolis where we first saw these blooming in the formal gardens of one of the mansions.

We would have to say that these gardens were totally welcoming and as we walked...and walked...and walked, we found even more evidence of it. There were chairs in peaceful settings everywhere! If I had to pick one, well, I could ask you to guess, but I will tell you - it is the rocking chairs , bottom center. The vista was out to the rolling hills of the property. I want to go back and just sit and read and write - or be still and watch - right in that spot!!

Coming around a bend and walking down the path, I caught a glimpse of what resting and being still is all about - notice the peaceful smile on this face! Sad to say, there were no chairs here to reste along with this peaceful person. You can only imagine. You can get a sense of Chanticleer from this face - S/he's walked the miles and now has taken time to set a spell, resting and reflecting on the gratitude for the gifts from Mother Nature!! You have to go...

Reincarnation and The Little Soul

Just a very few nights ago, a group of friends were sitting and talking, drinking local wine and listening to some great bands at the Bus Stop Music Cafe. The conversation flowed into talk about reincarnation. Everyone was asking what each thought about the concept. I shared reading James Redfield years ago with The Celestine Prophecy and the Eleventh Insight. He said that we were all incarnated when we first came to the Earth plane from one ball of light - hence our unity. Every time we come back, we enter again with our soul group because we have lessons to learn...and teach. Ann Marie gave me a CD about the Little Soul, conversations with God about purpose and finding oneself. This morning when I was out with the camera, these dandelions brought all of that conversation to mind. When I came home and took a closer look, here were so many of the light beings coming off of the one spark! Fancy that!! Don't you just love how everything is connected to everything else? It's all synchronicity and happens constantly IF our eyes are open and we pay attention!! It's our gift!!

Dogwood: See the Energy!!!

This is just pure fun!! I had been reading some of the myths and realities associated with the dogwood tree - it was used to make the cross for Jesus' crucifixion; the flowers have marks at the end of each petal - the nail on the cross. Some might be true, some sound plausible and some well...You can't believe everything you read!!

One of my favorite places in our yard is the dogwood tree out back that creates a space with my picnic table - my grounding spot. I sit leaning against the tree, put my bare feet on the ground and now the Lemon balm is coming back to life. When I talk about being still - and that I do - this is the place for me!! I wanted to see what I could see in the flowers. Our tree is little and it wasn't very open in bloom, but it gave me some insights. Then, by accident - ok there are no accidents, only synchronicities, I hit some button and whammo - saturation. Now this is an image to contemplate!! Be still, gaze into the picture and see what messages you might get.

The Soul of the Flower: Discover the Essence

To be at peace within, I go to the stillness and beauty of the flowers. Each has its own spirit and essence and I value that so much. Friend Karen has tulips sharing their beauty in her garden. Once I saw them in their wholeness, both as individual flowers and as clusters that naturally grow together, I felt the warmth of the sun shining filling me with a stillness to just walk quietly and see. The gift was the wide openness of each flower and its center. I feel blessed to have a SuperMacro on my camera and so enjoy the gifts we can gather to share. If I lifted the brush, I could say that these were painted. Actually they are painted by the Spirit that gifted us with them. WOW!!

WOW is what I can say about this one. There are pieces of this one that I never saw until I put these in the computer. The blues had to be there all along but not visible to my eye when I was looking at it. The more I look at this, the more details I see. Friend Tony is producing The Journey: it's to be a CD, DVD, musical production and movie. It's about the Journey home to one's soul. It's about being in the present moment - the here and now. It's about how life needs to be lived so we can be at total peace within ourselves and with everything and everyone in our environment. It is about life as it is meant to be lived! It is about awareness of every moment. It is about going home - and when I took these pictures, I felt that I was going home and connecting with the essence of the tulips. What a gift!!

CHANGE Happens in a Flash!!

YES, this is the same tree from the same beautiful orchard BUT when I went back to see it today, it had all been uprooted!! Change can be challenging!! Gosh it was just there and showing its beauty and today it is not worth anything. Let's just hope that they are planning to replant a baby orchard to grow and NOT another housing development or another big church?!?!? Change is never easy - right now there are so many changes and transitions in the world. that any stability is of total value!!

It's Here!! It's Here!! Truly Spring!

Driving to Mullica Hill on a truly glorious morning, I was ecstatic to see that Spring had truly come to South Jersey - my definition of Spring. Don't get me wrong - I love the crocus, daffodils and forsythia, but when the peach trees come into bloom, well, then it is official!! I was on the way to meditation at NJ Spirituality but already, my heart was at peace with this beauty. Then when we closed our eyes and journeyed to the mountaintop with our healing angel (mine identified herself as Sari), the morning was complete and I could go forth with the day! Thanks for all of the blessings. I do hope that you all stop and take the time to see the gifts we are given daily - and be filled with gratitude?!?!?

This cart is my road marker - it guides me on where to turn to get home. Today it was sitting there ready for Spring and I just had to stop and gaze at the orchard surrounding it. You can tell where the baskets of peaches come from throughout the summer?!?

To me, the setting of this house is perfection - the gazebo, the pond, the vegetation and well just the whole picture. I was on my way home and Lindsay would be coming for our creativity time (today we were designing picture frames with seashells! I'll put up a picture when the photos get in) but, well, she could wait a bit while I stopped by the side of the road and gazed at the peace and stillness. Someday I will find out who the lucky folks are who live in this environment. Until then, I am grateful for what they have created for the rest of us as we travel on their road. The question that comes to my mind...how many people even notice?? While I was pulled over, cars zoomed by - had they ever seen this view? Did they ever take the time to stop and gaze? I did and in it lies my stillness for the gifts we are given - I know that this is a repeat theme, but I just read an article in Shambalal Sun called about Really Seeing. The authors have written a book called Contemplative Photography (yes, it is on its way to our house). I remember when Bob and I attempted to offer a course at Gloucester County College called the Tao of Photography - very few interested. Hmmmmmmmm. Do most people want the technical aspects of taking photos so they can get 'better pictures'?!?! Then I just "happened" to see another book - to be a travelling companion to the other - Healing with Photography. In some ways, I have lost my essence of just going out and BEING STILL and waiting for the visions. These books and lots of reflective practice will guide me back to center!

I remember that I am always encouraging people to be a PhotoSchmoozer and look closely at everything in their world because there can be a story lurking. Today, I came home from grocery shopping and as Bill and I were putting the produce away, we looked at a most unusual 'design' in a pear on the top of the refrigerator. Hmmmmmm?!?!?!? As Bill looked further, lo and behold, there were some little dark 'droppings'. We must have recently had company, but how can a mouse get up on top of the fridge? Hey, it's not the first time!!
